Dengarden»Interior Design»Home Furnishings How to Get a Hemnes Bed From IKEA to Stop SqueakingUpdated on November 16, 2016 Woodson more Stop the Squeak and Tighten UpIf you have noticed a squeak coming from your Hemnes, Ikea bed, you are not alone. In fact this is a common problem with all Ikea beds. They first time you assemble them they seem snug and tight, but after a year or two of sleeping and other bedroom activities, the joints start to loosen, and so begins the dreaded squeak. Every time you turn over or reposition yourself, you hear it. It keeps you up. It alienates your sleeping partners. Eventually you are too embarrassed to bring anyone to your bed, so you die alone. Do not despair! You saving grace could be as simple as tightening a few bolts. You see, most beds loosen up over time, and tightening the four corner bolts on a Hemnes bed can bring them back into line. You have probably tried this already, but if not, it is the place to start. Target the bolts closest to where your squeak is, but it also make sense to tighten the whole bed. Sometimes you might hear a squeak in one place, but the looseness is elsewhere in the bed frame. Try LubeSqueaks come from two sources, movement and friction. Step one tries to reduce the first. By tightening, you reduce the amount the bed can move. By lubricating, you reduce the amount of friction the that can cause the squeak. Apply WD-40 or other lubricants anywhere you have to pieces coming together, including places where wood is rubbing on wood. I recommend the WD-40 No Mess Pen, since you are working in a tight place and don’t need much. Use this pen to get into all the corners and joints. In fact, combining this step with the first allows you better access to all of the places you need to get. Try GlueThis is not a solution if you plan on moving. It means that the bed will be stuck together and much more difficult to disassemble when you need to. This is a solution for those who do not plan on moving and do not care if the bed frame makes it out alive. Start by loosening the bolts. There is no need to take the bed completely apart as long as you can work some wood glue between the abutting pieces. Do not glue the nuts and bolts themselves. It know it is tempting, but this will prevent you from ever easily taking the bed apart again. Once you have worked wood glue into all the crevices and joints, give it a few hours to dry and see if the squeak remains. Still Squeaking? Consider a new frame or a new foam mattress to absorb or prevent the noise. Mikey Likes It! ReviewLet’s review. Your steps are simple, but they increase with difficulty and cost. 1. Tighten. Give every nut and bolt a good twist to see if you can reduce the sound. 2. Lube. WD-40 everything but the mattress. 3. Glue. But don’t get stuck. 4. New mattress. It’s pricey, but worth it if you were going to any way. 5. New bed. Face it. It’s not working out. Buy a cheap metal frame and move on.

Questions & Answers We bought the King size today. Now I'm really concerned about putting it together! We didn't buy the slats though. We're going to get hard wood slats to put in the frame. Is it the posture slats which make it creaky and unable? BellaVeralle asked on Oct 29, 2015 Answer this It's a long time ago since we bought this bed. I am surprised that anbody would by this bed after the bad review. The whole bed is poorly designed and is warped. I don't know if hard wood slats would make any difference. Take the bed back and get your money back. If they ask for the wrapping and other things, just tell them u want your money back and say that the bed didn't live up to your expectations. Otherwise go to Fair Trading. There are new laws in place so they can't refuse you the money back. Good Luck! Anna20 replied on Oct 29, 2015 Is this bed worth getting if not what bed frame would be good? amy.barnicoat asked on Feb 18, 2015 Answer this I don't think this bed is worth the trouble and the time to put it together. Best is to paid a little bit more and buy an already assembled bed. Alton_Chan replied on Feb 19, 2015 I have a super kingsize bed frame Hemnes from ikea. Creaks like crazy with every body movement. Is there a solution to stop this. Hoping the bed just needs to bed in. Ideas welcome. Cliffs asked on Oct 08, 2013 Answer this I think you need to find out whether the creakings come from the mattress' spring coils being loose or from the bed frame itself. With mine, I bought a new mattress and box spring over the QUEEN HEMNES bed frame. So there is no creakings whatsoever. You may also want to check the wood panels and all those iron rods which support the mattress are all in in placed and tightly screwed. Good luck!
